The Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) was first developed in the 1940s by Kathryn Briggs and Isabel Briggs Myers. This mother/daughter team was interested in the personality type theory of C.G. Jung and set out to develop an instrument to measure different preferences of people.
How The Myers-Briggs is Used in Companies
For many years, the Myers-Briggs (MBTI) has proven to be a useful assessment in many companies throughout the world. It is used to help people to both understand themselves, and the people they work with. They Myers-Briggs is used for leadership development, team development, conflict management, and for increasing organizational communication and problem solving.
Personality Types Test
The MBTI categorizes people based on their individual preferences. The MBTI is not a personality test. It helps people understand their natural preferences related to where they get their energy [extroversion (E) or introversion (I)], how they use information [sensing (S) or Intuition (N)], the source of their values [thinking (T) or Feeling (F)], and how they structure their life [judging (J) or perceiving (P)]. Different combinations of these 8 letters create each of the 16 different MBTI Types.
